Dogs Hope is a private, independent rescue
• which works with local animal control shelters. We "pull" and foster dogs (mostly pointers and German Shorthaired Pointers) that have "run out of time." Most of the dogs come from Mecklenburg, Cabarrus, Stanly, and Union Counties of North Carolina. We do occasionally get dogs from further away if we can get help with transport.
• It grew out of a personal mission of one person, Judith, CDL (Chief Dog Lackey), into a rather daunting operation. She started in rescue in 1982. Her rescue "took off" when she joined Petfinder in 2003. Dogs Hope has placed more than 80 dogs into loving homes.
• Currently Dogs Hope is home for 31 dogs. About half are up for adoption.
The sanctuary dogs are either seniors who have been with Dogs Hope for a long
time, or have issues which make them not good candidates for adoption.
• Dogs Hope receives no outside funding (donations are always welcome). See our WISH LIST for ways to help.
• All dogs are spayed or neutered, up-to-date on vaccinations, wormed, tested and started on heartworm preventative; housebroken or working on it. All dogs receive training.
• The dogs stay indoors in crates at night and during bad weather. They are all leash walked at least twice daily.
• Socialization to a normal indoor environment is part of the process of getting them ready for adoption. We test dogs to see how well they get along with other dogs, children, and cats.
• Dogs Hope works hard to get as many animals into loving homes as possible. In most cases we cannot accept animals from private individuals - shelter animals have priority. Most of the work of Dogs Hope is done by one person. We do work with volunteers.
• Adoption donations pay for spay, neuter, shots, worming and other medical needs (as well as housing and food).
